How a drum shipment is inspected

What happens during a third-party inspection

Tiger Bitumen describes its products as supported by strict internal quality control and SGS inspection coordination. This is the inspection sequence recorded in its published SGS reports for drum shipments loaded in the Karachi Export Processing Zone.

Drums selected for sampling

The inspector selects drums at random from the filled lot, on a cube-root basis under ASTM D140/D140M, the standard practice for sampling asphalt materials.

In published reports

Sample split and sealed

The composite sample is divided into three sealed sets: one for laboratory testing, one for the principal, and one retained by the inspector.

In published reports

Laboratory testing

A laboratory tests the sample for penetration, softening point, ductility, flash point, loss on heating, solubility, specific gravity and spot test, using ASTM methods.

In published reports

Stuffing, weighing and sealing witnessed

The inspector witnesses the drums being loaded into containers, records weighbridge weights and seals each container with a numbered inspection seal.
In published reports

Report of Quality and Quantity issued

The agency issues a report listing the cargo, drums, containers, seals, weights and test results, referenced to the bills of lading.
